DCE Publications:

On the Cutting Edge (OTCE), three issues annually of the peer-reviewed newsletter publication which provides self assessment questionnaires with continuing education credits. Upcoming topics include:

  • Summer 2010--"Diabetes Management in the Primary Care Setting"
  • Winter 2010--"Diabetes and Modified/Enhanced Foods"

Newsflash, produced 3 times annually, includes featured columns clinical updates, reviews of books, research publications and web sites.

Reproducible patient education handouts are produced annually and maintained in the DCE publication area of the website, http://www.dce.org/pub_publications/index.asp. Recent slicks include "Prebiotic Basics: Helping your Health from the Inside Out," and "Continuing Glucose Monitoring."

Medicare MNT Provider Newsletter posted each month on the members-only section of the DCE web site for members’ use. The Medicare MNT Provider newsletter is the only publication that provides specific Medicare Part B information and regulatory policies to RD providers.

Article reprints on key diabetes topics located in the DCE resources area

Free subscriptions to diabetes related magazines which may include Diabetes Forecast, Diabetes Cooking and Diabetes Living. (These may be periodically subject to change).

Continuing Professional Education Events, Webinars, Networking & Receptions

  1. New—Free webinars to members on hot topics and a link to view it up to a year after the live presentation. Earn free CPEU’s. See the recent topics.
  2. DCE sponsors workshops and educational sessions for members at ADA’s Food & Nutrition Conference & Exhibition.
  3. DCE also supports educational sessions at American Association of Diabetes Educators, State Dietetic and Diabetes Educator meetings and the American Overseas Dietetic Association Meeting
  4. DCE is involved in the program planning for ADA Post Graduate Course and Scientific Sessions.
  5. DCE provides networking opportunities at member only receptions during FNCE and AADE

International Affairs

In April 2009, DCE member Amy Fischl, MS, RD, LD, BC-ADM, CDE, will present at the combined American Overseas Dietetic Association (AODA) and Malaysian Dietitians’’ Association. (MDA) conference as part of their Global Opportunities for the RD: Translating Evidence-Based Research into Practice segment.   Ms Fischl’s presentation topic will be: The Role of the Nutrition Professional and Children with Type 2 Diabetes: Practical Advice for Around the Globe to Promote Lifestyle and Behavior Change.

The University of West Indies Diabetes Outreach Project – Allan Lee MS, RD, CDE was the Speaker.

DCE continues to work with ADA and other national professional groups to improve reimbursement for diabetes self-management education and medical nutrition therapy.
